From Assistant Chef student to Private Chef
Hi, my name is Kagiso Tatsi Motswanedi… Alumni of the Emdeni Skills Development Centre (ESDC) – private chef, caterer and event host.
My career as a filmmaker was cut short when I was diagnosed with multiple mental conditions and I found solace in cooking.
In 2022, I enrolled for the Assistant Chef course at the ESDC – a course that changed my life. The skills training, I received, took my “home cooking skills” to “chef-level skills” in four months. I was one of the ESDC students who were part of the Professional Cookery Programme with Capsicum Culinary Studio. This course introduced me to the culinary world. I learned so much about food – from sourcing ingredients, and food pairing to food styling. Being at the centre also helped with my people skills – which I attribute to time spent with training co-ordinator, Sandile Nkosi and former centre manager, Morgan Mahala.
After graduating, I applied my skills and started the Just4Keeps catering and hosting business. My team and I have had the privilege of hosting and catering for private events such as a Christmas brunch, a games night and developed a menu for a local fast-food restaurant. We are now working on the Heritage Day Fine Dining Experience and would like to invite you to this unique event, hosted by Just4Keeps.
My ultimate goal is to take my business to the next level and want to start cooking classes in my kasi (neighbourhood). I would also like to advise my peers to never give up. You were given your talents and dreams for a reason. Go out there and achieve them!
Thank you to all our donors who make it possible for our beneficiaries to realise their dreams. Your donations and support, keep us going…You are changing the future of South Africa, one life at a time.
My loopbaan as filmmaker is kort geknip nadat ek met verskeie geestestoestande gediagnoseer is.
Ek wil kookklasse in my kasi (buurt) aanbied.
