Despite the variety of options, a number of children in residential care cannot adapt in main stream schooling, due to severe trauma. Their problems are emotional rather than intellectual. For that reason Impact school was started at the Langlaagte campus, where the children with severe trauma live. At this school about 40 children have the opportunity to learn without the dangers of reacting to social pressures. The aim is to support their therapeutic programs, to strengthen their academic, emotional and mental abilities so they can be placed back into mainstream schooling eventually.
